Carme Farré’s top tips on holiday exercising

Here I go, excited to go on holiday after many months of working nonstop. I may have been planning this trip for months or quite recently, it does not matter. We all feel a sense of freedom when we take time off for ourselves to enjoy! Then, we come back … yes the trip has been great but our diet and lack of exercises makes us feel a bit guilty. Why didn’t I workout for let say, 30 minutes every day?

Going on holiday is vital for everyone, but remember that during the holidays we all eat and sleep as well as everything else we enjoy doing. So, we should still keep up with exercising, it should be a habit.

We want to be efficient while on holidays. I therefore recommend clients to combine HIIT with Pilates and Facial Fitness to up to 30 minutes per day.

Max and resting heart rate on holiday?

Interestingly, the first thing is to know what your max and resting heart rate is for you to check whilst doing HIIT. The reason being is that HIIT workout alternates between short work intervals (70 to 90 percent max heart rate) and rest periods (60 to 65 percent max heart rate).

    • To calculate what is your max and rest heart rate here is a simple way:

220 – Your age = Max. heart rate

60% of max. = rest period heart rate

My holiday workout tips:

  • Try to work out around 30 minutes before you have breakfast because if you do, it will set you up for a great day.
  • Start with HIIT that lasts for 12 minutes and make sure to check your heart rate during these periods!  You can just do a series of running on the spot, squats, star jumps, lunges, mountain climbers, etc.
  • As an example, use an elastic band as resistance exercises between your HIIT intervals, don’t just rest. It is very easy to fit in your suitcase and it works wonders! (refer to my Instagram)
  • Follow up with Pilates for 12minutes, which includes an abdominal workout, side-lying and back exercises. This will include strength and stretching movements.
  • Finalise with Facial Fitness exercises for 6 minutes with a massage at the end.

Now you are ready. Go and enjoy your breakfast!
